Telus wished to build an in-house solution to reduce cost, improved the user experience by incorporating the latest in AI technology, and allowed them to sell a turn-key product to other communication service providers globally.
3 premium smart home cameras with market-leading AI System-on-Chip (SoC) & edge-AI object detection. Winner of 4 Red Dot & IF Design awards, demonstrating the world-class product innovation.
Incorporated a leading Vision AI System-on-Chip and edge-AI machine vision objection detection models for best-in-class notification performance. Leveraged the increased customer-lifetime value of a service-model to provide overhead for additional AI models in the future.
Intergration device firmware with an AWS developed cloud platform & an in-house developed mobile app. Tested this intergration extensivly in the real world. Beta testing grew to 5000 participants.
A heater was integrated to extend the operating range of key components down to -40°C. Extensive thermal simulation & testing was conducted to develop cost-effective passive cooling capable of operating within 50°C ambient air operating temperature within the class-leading small size envelope.
Established a 5 year roadmap for superiority in home security & convenience based on whole home sensing & advanced AI on the edge
Led negotiations & partnerships with manufacturers & core technology providers including AI System-on-Chip (SoC) & edge-AI software vendors
Owned all aspects of product design & development across the product lifecycle, including research, prototyping, testing, & integration of hardware & firmware, requirements & specifications, project schedule & risk management, partner relationships, business casing, & supply chain operations
Collaborated closely with AWS to develop an integrated cloud platform & app. This encompassed creating Application Programming Interfaces (API), data storage & AI analysis architecture, device onboarding processes, & support infrastructure to create a scalable solution
Collected & analysed valuable user data to create actionable insights by running beta testing with over 5k users nationally
Designed, developed, & launched 3 premium smart home cameras with market-leading AI System-on-Chip (SoC) & edge-AI object detection in under a year
Scaled production to ~300k units per annum within 2 years
